Jim Winn, a first round pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1981, started the 'Save the Pirates' game June 20th, 1985. A hard thrower, Jim never had much luck as a Pirate, and gradually lost control on his pitches due to repeated injuries. Winn and the second round pick in 1981, Lee Tunnell had similar disappointing injury-filled careers, although Tunnell at least made a name for himself in the league.

Jim Winn was a standout college pitcher at John Brown University.
