[edit] Biographical Information
Jim Viox hit quite well in 1913, in his first full season in the majors at age 22. Viox hit .317, good for third in the National League, and beating teammate Honus Wagner, who hit .300. Viox's batting averages were not as good after that, and his range was never very high; his last major league season was 1916.
He was a minor league manager after his playing days. In 1921 as a player-manager for Portsmouth, he hit .370.
- His .317 batting average set a long-standing record for rookie second basemen, something that Dustin Pedroia in 2007 tied. Viox's performance was set in a year when the league batting average was .262.
