Jim Romano was one of many young pitchers given pitching time by the 1950 Brooklyn Dodgers and manager Burt Shotton. Romano was 23, and other young pitchers included Billy Loes, 20, Joe Landrum, 21, Erv Palica, 22, Carl Erskine, 23, Chris Van Cuyk, 23, Clem Labine, 23, Don Newcombe, 24, and Ralph Branca, 24. And yet it was not a bad team - the Dodgers finished 2nd that year, with 89 victories.
