Bonus baby Jim Pyburn also starred in football at Auburn University. After his brief baseball career, he returned to the gridiron as a high school coach and college assistant at the University of Georgia and Abilene Christian University.
His son, Jeff Pyburn, was selected by the San Diego Padres in the first round of the 1980 amateur draft but never reached the majors.
