Jim McManus hit well in his cup of coffee with the 1960 Athletics, slugging .538.
McManus was originally a Detroit Tigers farmhand before being traded to the Kansas City Athletics. He was a left handed power hitter.
He was with Montreal in 1959 and Shreveport in 1960 (where he led the Southern Association in home runs).
McManus played for the original 1961 Hawaii Islanders. He played in 139 games, all but 10 at first base. He was a consistent hitter who always seemed to pick up a hit in every game. His final 1961 statistics were: 484 At-Bats, 140 hits, 19 doubles, 2 triples and 21 homers. He drove in 81 runs and scored 60. He had 9 stolen bases ane his final batting average was .275.
The next season, McManus got his release from the Athletics and then signed with the Taiyo Whales in Japan, where he played for 2 seasons (1962 & 1963).
