Jim Mangan played catcher in the major leagues in 1952, 1954, and 1956. He went to St. Ignatius High School, and played baseball at Santa Clara University. He was at Santa Clara at the same time as Lou Berberet and Bill Renna, and Wayne Belardi.
He played for the Hollywood Stars in the minors. In 1954 the team tied for the PCL championship. One teammate there was Dale Long.
After baseball he taught at Leland High School, and then was a small business owner.
