[edit] Biographical Information

Jones made his ML debut in the (in)famous Chicago-Louisville game of June 29, 1897. Chicago won 36-7; the 36 is still the record for the most runs scored. Jones was charged with 22 runs that day.

Jones' 22 is not the most for any pitcher: Dave Rowe of Cleveland gave up 35 runs while starting against Chicago in 1882. Strangely, no-one seems to know the record for most runs charged to a relief pitcher. So Jones may hold that record.

He later played for the Giants in the Christy Mathewson era.
