Jim Colzie pitched in the Negro Leagues for the Indianapolis Clowns. He made appearances before World War II briefly. He served in the US Military from 1942-1945. He then returned to the Clowns, going 4-0 in 1946 and 3-3 the next season. He continued until 1952, also pitching for the Atlanta Black Crackers.
Colzie worked in Little League and was a semipro umpire after his playing career ended. He also taught history and math at the junior high school level.
His son Neal Colzie played in the NFL from 1975-1983, making 25 interceptions as a safety and once (as a rookie, with Oakland) leading the league in punt return yardage.
