Jim Burns played three years in the major league American Association, hitting over .300 each time. In his only full season, he had the highest batting average and slugging percentage among the regulars on the 1889 Kansas City Cowboys.
Burns also played in the minors, between 1886-96. With St. Paul in 1895-96 his manager was Charlie Comiskey.
