[edit] Biographical Information
First baseman Jim Obradovich was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 24th round of the 1967 amateur draft. He progressed slowly through their chain, missing the 1971 and 1972 campaigns while serving in the U.S. Army. Prior to the 1977 season, he was released by the Twins and signed by the Houston Astros. After hitting .306 with 21 home runs for the AAA Charleston Charlies in 1978, he earned a September call-up to the majors. In 10 big league games, he hit .176. One of the highlights of his brief time in the majors was hitting a triple and driving in a run off future Hall of Famer Gaylord Perry in a game against the San Diego Padres on September 16th.
Obradovich helped the Navojoa Mayos to the 1978-79 Mexican Pacific League title, their first ever. He hit two homers in the deciding final game and won an MVP award. He later spent three full years in the Mexican League.
