[edit] Biographical Information

Jim Baxes was signed by the Dodgers in 1947 but didn't make it to the majors until 1959, when he was the Opening Day third baseman for the 1959 Los Angeles Dodgers. He only played 11 games before being traded to the 1959 Cleveland Indians, although he was hitting .303 and slugging .515 for the Dodgers at the time. During the rest of the season with Cleveland, he hit 15 home runs, slugging .466 on a team that slugged .408. He played more second base than third base for the Indians. The Dodgers won the 1959 World Series that year, but the Indians were also good, winning 89 games.

Baxes was 30 when he made his major league debut, having played in the minors starting in 1947. He was in the Dodgers organization the whole time prior to his major league debut, except for military service in 1950-51. He was in the PCL for seven seasons, both before and after his major league time.
