Jesus Hernaiz pitched 27 games for the 1974 Philadelphia Phillies. At 29 years of age, he was five years older than teammate Mike Schmidt.
Hernaiz, born in Santurce, PR, played in the Puerto Rico Winter Baseball League with the Caguas Creoles and the Mayagüez Indians.
Armed with an excellent fastball, Jesús played from the 70's to the early 90's with the Mayagüez Indians.
In the minors, Hernaiz began in 1967 at age 22, and finished up in 1983 at age 38. He won 82 games, with most of his appearances being in relief.
