[edit] Biographical Information

Jess Dobernic is famous for waiting 9 years between the time of his first major league appearance and the time of his first recorded major league win. He also is known for being a successful pitcher for the 1948 Chicago Cubs, going 7-2 in 54 relief appearances with a 3.15 ERA. He led the Cubs that year in games pitched in as well as Games Finished.

Dobernic had originally come up in 1939 with the Chicago White Sox for four games, but had no victories. After his season in 1948, he came back in 1949 for four games with the Cubs, getting no decisions, and moved to the Cincinnati Reds for 14 more games, where he also had no decisions. He ended up with a career record of 7-3.

Although he waited 9 years for a victory, that is not a record since four major league pitchers had to wait at least 10 years.
