Jesús Sánchez is a starting pitcher currently (March 14, 2010) on the Philadelphia Phillies inactive roster.
Sánchez began his professional career as a catcher in 2005, in the New York Yankees farm system. He hit .165/.267/.217 for the DSL Yankees. In 2006, he played in 24 games with the GCL Yankees (.269/.346/.323) before being traded from the Yankees with C.J. Henry, Carlos Monasterios and Matt Smith for Cory Lidle and Bobby Abreu on July 30. He played in eight games with the GCL Phillies that year, going 5 for 26. Overall, he batted .252 in 32 games.
He split the 2007 season between the GCL Phillies (34 games) and Clearwater Threshers (one game), hitting .216/.321/.258. In 2008, he spent most of his season with the Lakewood BlueClaws, hitting .186/.231/.345 in 35 games. He also spent one game with the GCL Phillies in 2008 - though he was used as a pitcher. He pitched one inning in relief, allowing no runs.
Sánchez converted to pitching full-time in 2009, and he went 10-6 with a 3.44 ERA in 26 games for the BlueClaws. In 136 innings, he gave up 137 hits and 42 walks, while striking out 120 batters.
