Albert "Jerry" Akers went 1-1 on the 1912 Washington Senators, a team which went 91-61. Jerry was 24, the same age as teammate Walter Johnson.
Akers was born in Shelbyville, IN in 1887, the same year that Donie Bush was born 32 miles away in in Indianapolis, IN. At age 18, Akers was pitching for Jacksonville. He pitched several years for Jacksonville and a couple for Dubuque.
His father was a prominent judge named Albert Akers. The family lived in Shelbyville for a number of years but resided mainly in Quincy, IL. When the judge died in 1927, Jerry was a resident of Quincy.
