Catcher Jeff Sovern was drafted in the 20th round of the 1973 amateur draft by the Chicago White Sox. Converted for infield to catcher in 1974, Sovern led American Association backstops with 72 assists in 1975. On December 12, 1975, Sovern was traded with Rich Hinton to the Cincinnati Reds for Clay Carroll. Sovern was listed on the Reds' 1977 spring roster, but never made the majors.
He currently is the head coach of the Lakeview High School varsity baseball team.
