Jeff Peterek has been inducted into the Lake Michigan College Athletic Hall of Fame. He played there from 1980 to 1982, and is the only major leaguer to have come from the college as of 2006. He also pitched at the Western Kentucky University and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

He played five years in the minors, as well as coming to the majors in 1989. Arm troubles ended his career.

In 1989, when he came to the majors with the Milwaukee Brewers, he was 25 years old. He was one year older than catcher B.J. Surhoff.

As of 2003, he was a real estate agent.
