Jeff Messer has won over 700 games as a college coach.

Messer was a shortstop in college. In 1981, he played and coached in Holland; he later took Slippery Rock to the Netherlands for a tour. He was assistant at Westfield State College in 1983-1984, then held the same role at Oklahoma City University in 1985 while finishing his master's degree. He became head coach of Slippery Rock in 1986. After 24 years, he had gone 760-432-4, ranking second in Pennsylvania college history in wins. He took the school to the 1989 Division II College World Series, 1997 Division II College World Series, 2000 Division II College World Series and 2003 Division II College World Series. The best finish was third nationally in 1989. Messer was named Division II chair of the American Baseball Coaches Association in January 2008. He also was a professor in Slippery Rock's health and physical education department for 22 years.
