[edit] Biographical Information

Jeff Hamilton played six years in the majors for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was part of the 1988 World Series champion team, and in 1989 he was sixth in the league in doubles.

Hamilton underwent arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder near the end of the 1990 season. In 1991, he tore a knee ligament and was done as a major league player.

Hamilton hit over .300 as a minor league player between 1983 and 1992, with a peak in 1987 when he hit .360 in 65 games. He also pitched succesfully in the minors, going 10-3, mostly in Single A ball.

Hamilton started at third base on June 3, 1989 but finished the game as the pitcher, when he took the loss in the 22nd inning at Houston. It was Hamilton's only pitching appearance. The game also finished with Hall of Famer Eddie Murray at third base for Hamilton and pitcher Fernando Valenzuela manning first base. It was to be 19 years before Jamie Burke became the next major league position player to be credited with a loss.

Hamilton's father, Robert Hamilton, pitched in the Pittsburgh Pirates chain in 1960-1961.
