[edit] Biographical Information

Jeff Conine has played first base, left field, right field and third base during his career. His defense at first was slightly above average and average in the outfield. He is the only player to have played in both World Series won by the Florida Marlins, in 1997 and 2003. He had been reacquired by the Marlins on August 31, 2003, a few hours before the deadline to be eligible for post-season rosters, after third baseman Mike Lowell had his wrist broken by a Hector Almonte fastball earlier in the day. He played regularly in left field down the stretch, with rookie Miguel Cabrera moving to third base, and was one of Florida's best hitters in the post-season, batting .458 in the NLCS against the Chicago Cubs and .333 in the World Series against the New York Yankees. He was already 27 when he first became a regular player in 1993, but has continued playing regularly into his forties.

In 2004, he tied the Marlins record with three grand slams in a season. His most famous moment came when he hit an 8th inning pinch home run in the 1995 All-Star Game as the Marlins' sole representative.

  • In 2008, the Florida Marlins signed Conine to a one-day contract to allow him to retire as a Marlin.
