[edit] Biographical Information
Jay Van Noy, born in Utah, is one of four major leaguers to have come out of Utah State University (through 2007). He played in six games with the 1951 Cardinals at age 22, getting into only one game in the field. He was much younger than teammates Enos Slaughter, 35, Stan Musial, 30, and Red Schoendienst, 28.
Van Noy was a very talented college athlete, excellent at basketball but quitting the team to play football where he was a star in two Bowl games. He was drafted by football's Los Angeles Rams but went into baseball instead.
After his playing days he became a successful baseball coach at Brigham Young University, winning two conference championships. He also assisted the football and basketball coaches.
He was then superintendent of the Parks & Recreation Dept. of Logan, UT.
The Utah Sports Hall of Fame named him the best all-around athlete in Utah history.
