[edit] Biographical Information
Jay Tessmer played four years in the majors for the New York Yankees, with a career record of 1-0.
Tessmer was at the University of Miami from 1994-95 at a time when there were several future major leaguers on the team, perhaps most notably Alex Cora. He was drafted by the Yankees in the 19th round in 1995 and spent most of his minor league career in their organization, although he was also in the Milwaukee and Colorado organizations in 2001.
For Tampa in 1996 he went 12-4 with a 1.48 ERA. Exclusively a reliever in the minors, he had 176 saves.
An article in the New York Times, Sept. 28, 1998, called him "soft-spoken and earnest".
