First baseman Jay Sorg was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 15th round of the 1994 amateur draft and played five seasons in their organization.

After his playing career ended, he became a minor league coach. He coached the Rockford Reds in 1999, then managed the Clinton LumberKings in 2000. He was a coach for the Billings Mustangs from 2001 to 2003, skippering the team for part of the 2003 season, and leading the Mustangs to the Pioneer League championship.

In order to be closer to a growing family, he left professional baseball in 2003 and served nearly three years as director of baseball operations for Champions Sports Complex in Louisville.

In 2006 and part of 2007 Sorg was a coach for the Louisville Bats. In 2008 Sorg became the head coach at his alma mater.
