Jay Robertson pitched as high as AAA before spending two decades as a front office man.

Robertson was taken by the Toronto Blue Jays in the third round of the January 1977 draft. He was 3-2 with four saves and a 3.46 ERA that summer for the Utica Blue Jays. The big right-hander was 7-6 with 11 saves and a 2.03 ERA for the 1978 Dunedin Blue Jays, allowing only 66 hits (1 homer) in 93 innings. He walked 44. Robertson led the Florida State League with 51 games pitched.

In 1979, the Californian pitched for the Kinston Eagles (7-5, 9 Sv, 2.36) and the Syracuse Chiefs (0-1, 3 Sv, 3.72). Back with Syracuse in 1980, Robertson was 5-5 with four saves and a 4.39 ERA, holding his own in AAA. He dropped down to AA with the 1981 Knoxville Blue Jays, going 3-4 with four saves and a 4.64 ERA in his final season.

Robertson later scouted for the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins. He came to the Cleveland Indians in 1990 and would spend 11 years there, including time as scouting director. In that role, he oversaw Cleveland's signing of Richie Sexson, Sean Casey, Russell Branyan and Jaret Wright.

In 2002, Jay followed John Hart from Cleveland to the Texas Rangers. He would spend eight seasons as a Special Assistant to the General Manager. In 2009, he moved to the Washington Nationals in the same role.
