Jay Hook spent five years with the Cincinnati Reds and then was an original Met in 1962. He spent three years with the Mets.

Hook attended Northwestern University in 1956-57, the same years as Chuck Lindstrom and Dave Hill. Jay was born in Waukegan, IL, in northern Illinois, and attended Grayslake Central High School, also in northern Illinois.

Hook won the first game in the history of the New York Mets, after the team had lost its first nine games.

After his baseball days, Hook used his mechanical engineering degree from Northwestern. Always a car lover, he went to work for Chrysler, and then went to Rockwell International, where he was involved with the business operations for truck parts and subway undercarriages. After that he was a senior executive at Masco Corp. When he retired from corporate work, he taught manufacturing management at Northwestern and bought a farm in Michigan. Source: Where Are They Now?
