'Javier Díez spent several years with the Spanish national team.

At age 20, Díez was Spain's starting right fielder for the 1988 Baseball World Cup. He went 4 for 22 with 12 strikeouts, no extra-base hits and no walks and produced no runs in 10 games. He had two assists and no errors in the outfield.

In the 1991 European Championship, the Barcelona native helped Spain get the Bronze Medal. He hit .190/.261/.238 as a corner outfielder in the 1991 Intercontinental Cup. Spain's main right fielder in the 1992 Olympics, he was 3 for 14 with a triple for the host country. He batted .321/.367/.429 to lead Spain in OPS in the 1993 Intercontinental Cup and made no errors in right field.
