He was Royals pitcher of the month for August 2002 after compiling a 0.98 ERA in 18 1/3 innings of work and collecting his first major league save.
On June 6, 2006, federal agents searched his home as part of a steroid investigation. He asked for his release from the Arizona Diamondbacks and was let go the next day. Several months later, the Los Angeles Times reported that he had claimed that Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Miguel Tejada, Brian Roberts and Jay Gibbons used illegal substances but the federal judge reviewing the case said that the Times story contained "significant inaccuracies".
