[edit] Biographical Information

James Burke was in one game each in 1882 and 1883, but had the bulk of his appearances in the 1884 Union Association when he went 19-15 for the 1884 Boston Reds, who finished over .500 under manager Tim Murnane. In early editions of the Baseball Encyclopedia, he was wrongly listed as Walter Burke and the playing record of Bill Burke was added to his own.

He is not to be confused with Jimmy Burke, who came along in the 1890s.
