[edit] Biographical Information

Jake Caulfield hit pretty well for a shortstop in his one season in the majors as a 28-year-old rookie in 1946. On a team that hit .253, hit .277, although he had few walks and only average power.

His defense was below par, however, as he made 8 errors in 31 games at short and his range was below average.

The "regular" shortstop that year was Pete Suder, although Suder played all over the infield. The next year, Eddie Joost became the shortstop and Suder became the second baseman.

Jake Caulfield attended the University of San Francisco from 1937-40, and had been with the Oakland Oaks in 1943.
