[edit] Biographical Information

Outfielder Lamar "Jake" Jacobs played ten games in the majors over the course of two seasons.

After attending Boardman High School, Jacobs went on to Ohio University (where future big leaguer Joe Nossek was a teammate). Following graduation in 1959, he was signed by the Washington Senators. He made his pro debut that summer, hitting .313 for the Sanford Greyhounds of the Florida State League. After spending most of the next year with the Charlotte Hornets of the South Atlantic League, he earned a late season call-up with the Senators, appearing in 2 games as a pinch hitter and 4 as a pinch runner. He split the following season between the Syracuse Chiefs and Indianapolis Indians before returning to the majors in September for 4 games with the Minnesota Twins (the Senators had moved in the offseason) in late 1961. He returned to the minors and played two more years, with the Vancouver Mounties in 1962 and Charlotte again in 1963.

While playing for Indianapolis, Jacobs met his wife Janice, a former Miss Indiana. After his baseball career, he spent 25 years as an insurance salesman. He died in 2010 at age 73.
