[edit] Biographical Information
Brewery Jack Taylor died young, at age 28, but not before he had a substantial major league career. His best years were with the Phillies in the years of Ed Delahanty, Sam Thompson, and Billy Hamilton.
He started in amateur baseball, then played in the minors in 1891, and came to the majors briefly in 1891. By 1893 he was a regular, pitching on the same staff with 36-year-old Tim Keefe.
His obituary in The Sporting Life indicated that "by reason of his temperament and his habits", he was "not always to be depended on".
He died of Bright's disease.
