[edit] Biographical Information
Jack O'Brien was the first pinch hitter in the history of the World Series. He struck out for Boston catcher Lou Criger with two men on in the 9th inning of Game One of the 1903 World Series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was his last major league appearance.
O'Brien played three seasons in the majors, and at least from 1895-1905 in the minors when he wasn't in the majors. He played at least five years in the Eastern League and at least three years for Milwaukee. He was the star of the 1902 Milwaukee team, hitting .341 while player-manager Hugh Duffy hit .291.
He is not to be confused with another Jack O'Brien nor with various players named Johnny O'Brien or John O'Brien.
