[edit] Biographical Information
Jack O'Connor played for a long time in the majors, starting at age 18 and finishing at age 41. He also managed one season.
O'Connor was primarily a catcher, but also played a lot in the outfield and at first base. His career stretched from the 1880's through to 1910. In reality, his career as a player ended in 1907, but when he was manager in 1910 he put himself in for one game.
His most impressive year with the bat was 1890, when he was 21 years old. That year, he played in the American Association, hitting .324, good for eighth in the league.
He was a teammate of Honus Wagner and Fred Clarke on the pennant-winning 1901 Pirates and 1902 Pirates.
He is one of nine major leaguers with the last name "O'Connor" (through 2007), along with one other also named Jack O'Connor.
O'Connor holds the record for most hits in a season without hitting an extra-base hit. In 1906, he collected 33 hits - not one of which was anything other than a single.
