Jack Niemes, born in Cincinnati, OH, went to the University of Cincinnati, the same place Sandy Koufax later went. The Cincinnati Reds brought him to the majors in wartime as the only University of Cincinnati graduate to make the majors between 1938 and 1954.
He is buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, where Ival Goodman and Johnny Hodapp are buried.
