"John McGeachy, the blonde right fielder of the local team is a comer. . . He has developed into a wonderful fielder, a great base-runner and as a sacrifice hitter and run getter he has no superiors. He is a stayer." - Sporting Life's Indianapolis correspondent, Sept. 19, 1888
Outfielder Jack McGeachey played six years in the majors. Never a strong hitter, he moved around to six teams in his six years, playing first in the National League, then in the Players League, and finally in the American Association.
He played minor league ball as early as 1884. As of 1898 he was working in a hostelry.
He was from Clinton, MA, a town which was well-known in the late 19th Century as the home also of Billy Hamilton as well as the town where Jimmy Ryan was born.
