[edit] Biographical Information
Before there was Joe Cronin, there was Jack Cronin. Jack played seven years in the majors with six teams (twice with Brooklyn). Except for part of 1902, all his games were in the National League.
Cronin won 43 of his 100 decisions, usually posting an ERA close to the league average.
He had been with Detroit when it was a minor league team and then stayed with the 1901 Tigers when they became a major league team.
The 1902 Giants used him seven times in the outfield, although he was not a strong hitter.
He is one of five major leaguers with the last name "Cronin". Joe Cronin was born in 1906, not long after Jack's major league career ended.
While growing up, Jack's neighbors in the West New Brighton section of Staten Island included Tuck Turner, Brewery Jack Taylor, Jack Sharrott, and George Sharrott.
