[edit] Biographical Information
Jack Taschner has pitched in the major leagues since 2005.
He was drafted in the second round of the 1999 amateur draft by the San Francisco Giants out of the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, where he was 7-0 with a 1.53 ERA in 1999.
From 1999-2001 he was in Single A ball, serving as a starter in 1999 and 2001, and notching more than one strikeout per inning pitched each of those two seasons. He missed 2002 due to Tommy John surgery. In 2003 and half of 2004 he was at Norwich in the Double A Eastern League, with an ERA of 5.71 the first year but a much improved 2.48 the second season. He moved up to Fresno of the Pacific Coast League in 2004 and was there again in part of 2005. His experience was similar to that in Double A, since his first ERA was 9.28, but then it dropped down to 1.64 the next season when he became exclusively a reliever. At Fresno in 2005, he again had more than one strikeout per inning pitched.
He came up for 24 games with the San Francisco Giants in 2005, posting a 1.59 ERA. In 2006, his ERA worsened to 8.38 with the Giants and he spent most of his season back at Fresno, where his ERA was 3.65. In 49 innings he had 68 strikeouts. He was on the Giants roster early in the season, then later for a few days in the middle of the season, and again at the end of the season starting August 14. He had a 3.38 ERA in his final 12 appearances for the Giants that year.
