[edit] Biographical Information
Jack Smith pitched three years in the majors, 1962-64. He was part of the champion 1963 Dodgers although he did not appear in post-season play.
Smith was signed by the Dodgers in 1955 and played ten seasons of minor league ball, mostly with the Dodgers organization. He won 92 minor league games. His best year was probably 1962 with Omaha when he went 17-7, although he won in double figures also in 1956, 1958, 1960 and 1961.
As pitchers go, he wasn't a terrible hitter, with a minor league batting average around .175.
In the majors, he had most of his appearances with the 1964 Milwaukee Braves, posting a 3.77 ERA in 22 games on a team whose average ERA was 4.12. He was fifteen years younger than teammate Warren Spahn.
