Jack Knott pitched 20 seasons, from 1924 to 1946, three in college, 11 in the major leagues and three in the minors, losing three years to the military. He served in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II (BN), being inducted on November 24, 1942. He saw action in the Battle of the Bulge, and was wounded in Belgium on January 10, 1945. He had earlier received a battlefield commission for bravery in action and now a purple heart to go with it.
He pitched for the St. Louis Browns, Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Athletics. He was the first manager of Brownwood Coliseum and a former executive of the Downtown Brownwood Merchant's Association. He died at age 74 after a lengthy illness at the Brownwood Regional Hospital in Brownwood, TX and is buried at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood.
