[edit] Biographical Information
The brother of Eddie Boyle, Jack Boyle played under manager Charlie Comiskey with the St. Louis Browns of the American Association and the Chicago Pirates of the Players League. Following his baseball career, he was in the saloon business in his hometown of Cincinnati. He briefly managed in the minor leagues, taking the helm of the Terre Haute Hottentots for the first part of the 1906 season in the Central League.
Sporting Life of January 18, 1913 carried his obituary and a biography. It stated that he played as a teenager for the Blue Lick ball club in Cincinnati, and became a major leaguer at a young age. He was a star catcher for many years and received a notably high salary in 1892. After his playing days he operated a successful saloon.
Honest Jack Boyle is not to be confused with his contemporary, Dirty Jack Doyle. The two played on the same team in 1892. He should also not be confused with the later Jack Boyle, who played in the majors in 1912.
