Second baseman J.C. Holt was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the fourth round of the 2004 amateur draft and made his pro debut that summer with the Danville Braves, leading the team with a .321 average and 17 stolen bases. After hitting .268 with the Rome Braves the next season, he stole a team-leading 35 bases with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and put together a 20 game hitting streak in 2006. In 2007, he hit .312 and stole 20 bases with the Mississippi Braves and hit .292 in 13 games with the AAA Richmond Braves.
