[edit] Biographical Information

Joe Young, often called "J.B.", was briefly in the majors and was also active in local baseball in central Pennsylvania. He was apparently successful in business, as a druggist, owner of a general store, and proprietor of a hotel. His parents came from Germany, and as a teen he worked in the mines. Source: Bell's History of Northumberland County.

He was one of only three known players to be born on the same day as their debut date and final game date (June 10 for Young). The others to accomplish this feat are George Ross and Chris Haughey.

". . . Mt. Carmel . . . suffered for want of a pitcher to alternate with honest Joe Young." - Sporting Life, Jan. 25, 1888
