Ireland is a nation that covers approximately five-sixths of the island of Ireland, off the coast of Europe.
Forty major leaguers were born in Ireland; of those 39 were born in the 19th century, with only pitcher Joe Cleary in the 20th century.
Players of Irish origin were extremely numerous in the early days of baseball.
