In 1952 the city of Independence, KS got its last sight of professional baseball in the 20th century with the Independence Browns of the Kansas-Oklahoma-Missouri League. The team was the worst in the K-O-M, with a 46-80 record. They were 11 games back of the 5th-place team in the six-team loop. The club hit .226, 21 points lower than the next-worst club. The team's best player was manager-1B Fred Collins (.272/~.450/.470).
