Hughie Wise hit .333 in the major leagues, playing two games for the 1930 Detroit Tigers. Charlie Gehringer hit .330 that year.
Wise's son Casey Wise also played in the majors, and another son Hugh Wise Jr. played in the minors.
He was with the Toledo Mud Hens in 1932. He was at Purdue University in 1926-27, overlapping in time there with Frank Sigafoos.
He is one of ten major league players with the last name "Wise" through 2006.
Wise played and managed in the minor leagues throughout the 1940's. He then scouted for the Boston Braves/Milwaukee Braves (1949-1958), New York Yankees (1959-1961), and Chicago White Sox (1962-1972). Wise put his engineering degree from Purdue to use by designing four diamond spring training complexes for both the Braves and White Sox.
