Hughie "Cotton" Miller played one game in the 1911 National League and then came back to become a regular in the 1914 Federal League. Thereafter he played 7 games in the 1915 Federal League.

Miller was born in St. Louis, MO, and was a first baseman in the minors. He was with Keokuk from 1908-1910. Most of 1911 was spent with Buffalo, although he appeared in one game in the majors. 1912-13 were with Sacramento and Montreal.

At age 27, Miller became the regular first baseman for manager Mordecai Brown and the 1914 St. Louis Terriers. He appeared in 132 of the team's 151 games.

Later, according to the book Early Exits, he was wounded in action during World War I.
