[edit] Biographical Information
The brother of Bill Hill, Hugh Hill played most of his major league games for the 1904 St. Louis Cardinals. The regular left fielder, George "Dearfoot" Barclay, hit .200 for the Cardinals that year and was traded by the Cardinals in September. Hugh played 23 games in left that year.
Hugh Hill's greatest successes as a professional ballplayer came with the Kansas City Blues of the American Association. It is interesting to note the circuitous route he took from cradle to grave: born in Georgia, he died in Cincinnati, OH, and is buried in Charleston, WV at Spring Hill Cemetery (which is on the National Register of Historic Places). His grave is marked by a simple stone bearing his full name and the years 1879-1958.
