Hub Andrews was from Ponca City, Oklahoma, where he played American Legion baseball and in the Ban Johnson League. He got his first taste of organized baseball in 1942 with the Fort Smith Giants of the Class C Western Association. That fall he went in the Air Force, where he served as an athletic instructor at several different stations in the United States. He was mustered out of the service in December 1945 and was with the Jersey City Giants in the Class AA International League in 1946. On April 20, 1947, he pitched in his first major league game for the New York Giants and appeared in 7 games before being sent back to Jersey City for the rest of the season. In 1948 he started the season with the Giants and again was sent back to Jersey City and then to the Minneapolis Millers of the Class AAA American Association. In 1949 he was back with Jersey City before retiring as a player. He had pitched in a total of 8 major league games for the Giants.
