After playing for the Indianapolis Clowns of the Negro Leagues, outfielder Horace Garner played minor league ball for a decade. With the Evansville Braves in 1952, he hit .318 with 23 home runs and led the Three-I League with 107 RBIs. Playing for the Jacksonville Braves the next summer, he and teammates Hank Aaron and Felix Mantilla integrated the South Atlantic League. Following three years with Jacksonville, he was back with Evansville in 1956 and led the Three-I League with a .354 average. With Evansville again in 1957, he led the circuit with a .334 average and 100 RBIs while hitting 20 home runs. He hit .313 with 27 homers the next year for the Cedar Rapids Braves.
