Outfielder Homer Summa hit .302 over ten years in the majors.
One of the first major leaguers out of the University of Missouri, Summa first reached the big leagues in a cup of coffee with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1920. Back in the majors with the Cleveland Indians in 1922, he replaced Smoky Joe Wood as a regular in the outfield alongside Tris Speaker and Charlie Jamieson the next summer and batted .328.
Summa hit into an unassisted triple play on May 31, 1927 against the Detroit Tigers; he lined out to first baseman Johnny Neun. The next summer, he hit a career-high 41 doubles. He ended his big league career with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1930 but played several more years in the Pacific Coast League after that.
